Losing your job is a particularly trying time in life but it’s important to remember that you’re not alone. Here is a list of people that also lost their jobs to help make you feel a bit better about yourself:
- Pete Best (the original Beatles drummer before Ringo Starr)
- Mary Antoinette
- Joan of Arc
- Adolf Hitler
- Benito Mussolini
As you can see you’re in illustrious company.
Now that you’re seeking alternative employment, have you considered competing in the X Games?
You’ll get to ride on skateboards even though you’re not 12 years old but crucially – no one will think this is weird or in any way childish.
If wearing kneepads and doing flips on a BMX bike sounds like it could be fun, here’s what you’ll need to do to become successful:
1. Become proficient at an extreme sport
It’ll have to be one of the sports that are featured at the X Games like freestyle BMX, moto X, skateboarding, vert skating, surfing or rallying. Please bear in mind that the X Games is an extreme sports event so simply sitting down on a skateboard and struggling to stay on might not be sufficient for you to qualify to take part.
2. Invent a new trick
To compete in the X Games, you’ll be required to stand out from other extreme athletes by inventing a new trick of some kind. Travis Pastrana for example, introduced the double back flip in Motocross. We suggest however, that you make sure you’re fully versed in your new artistic creation before trying it out in public, or you may find that you won’t progress very far in the tournament and might become a laughing stock if you attempt something that ends up in total disaster!
3. Get noticed
In order to be invited to the X Games, you will need to compete in events of the extreme sport you have chosen and prove yourself worthy of an X Games appearance. When extreme athletes are eventually invited to the X Games, they are usually chosen from international competitions, magazine reviews and nominations – getting your mates to give you a holla on Instagram will unfortunately not be enough.
4. Compete in the X Games
You will be chosen by a selection committee that is specific to your sport and the timeframe within which you will receive your invitation is specific to your particular discipline. When you attend your scheduled athlete meeting, the committee will inform you of the schedule of events for the X Games. From here you can then commence with your X Games practice before taking part in the competition proper.
