Have you ever taken your child to work with you and then faced criticism for placing the infant in potential danger as a result?
If you have, you’re not alone.
Pop Superstar Michael Jackson caused a stir when he appeared with his child Prince Michael II at a hotel in Berlin. The singer then proceeded to dangle the infant out of a third floor window whilst draping a towel over the baby’s head.
“I got caught up in the excitement of the moment. I would never intentionally endanger the lives of my children,” Jackson later said.
About 200 fans had gathered at the entrance to the Adlon Hotel near the Brandenburg Gate as Jackson’s motorcade arrived. The King of Pop was preparing to attend the Bambi Entertainment Award ceremony where he was due to receive a lifetime achievement award.
Jackson later dangled the baby out of the window of his room on the third floor whilst holding it with one arm under its shoulders.
Some onlookers feared the 44-year-old would drop the infant, although he brought the child back inside safely.
As Mr. Jackson’s fans cheered for him to reappear, Jackson came out onto the balcony covering his face before throwing a towel down to the adoring crowd below.
A close friend of the singer, the psychic Uri Geller, condemned Mr. Jackson’s actions but stated that did not believe he was capable of harming a child.
“I just would not put any child over a railing at such a height,” Geller said. “I think it was a silly thing to do. He probably did it because he was overwhelmed emotionally by the fans.”
Geller said he had suspected the baby was fake and said that Jackson was “too protective” of his children to do something like that for real.
